Nests

The construction industry is alive and booming among the various species of birds here at our place.
There is nesting going on everywhere.

 Even in the grill.

In the very early spring, I scattered about all the snippets of yarn I had been saving over the winter hoping that some would be up-cycled in to insulation for the birds as they were  last year.

A few have been picked up.
The nest builders at Punkins Patch have even more clever supplies to work with. Those birds have an amazing array of fiber goodness to work with.
Such wonderful ideas we learn from bloggers.

I get so excited the day I see the eggs filling the homes built for them. Then quickly my heart sighs knowing it will be so short lived.

First Ride of the Season

One of the side benefits of four children who grew up playing organized sports is time spent in the bleachers getting to know the other parents. We collected and stored quite a few deep friendships with like minded parents over the years (hey there BI gang!). So when we found out that some of the Lynchburg Lacrosse Dads rode motorcycles, it was only a matter of time until we met up with some and took the Long Way to a game.

Diversity!

The winter cobwebs are officially cleared out of my head.

I should be ready for whatever comes my way this week.
Hope yours is filled with all the right moments.

Five Facts

* The sound of the human voice is beautiful. In song, a baby crying, laughter, idle chit-chat...It's all good. I wish I could hear the sound of your voice right now.

*I do not want conduct financial matters online.  I like to go to the bank, fill out the necessary slips, exchange pleasantries with the teller (note above), wave to the manager and greet the person who walks up in line after me.

*Nor do I want to conduct all communications online. I enjoy the walk to the post office, where I greet the window clerk (note above again!) and buy my stamps to afix to the hand written envelopes I carry with me. If I am lucky, I may even enjoy a conversation or two with other patrons. People are wonderful.

* My home is a tortilla, Frito, taco, burrito, etc. Free Zone. But please, feel free to stop by with lime juice, salt and tequila. Anytime.

* There's nothing like sitting on a beach with a frosted beverage and a book.
For about an hour.  Then the book gets boring, the sun gets too hot, the sand gets scratchy, and the
    drink waters down.
Which means it time to enjoy the vacation and go exploring, doing, experiencing, learning and
    discovering.

A Pretend Farmer

That's what my grandson once called me.
Well, not anymore!
A few lovely ladies and their young now call our front pasture home.

They seem to like the beautiful Oak as much as I do.

Now all I need are three sheep, a couple of alpaca, a llama, two pigs and eight hens.

And a Peacock.

Just six days ago, we had temps below freezing over night out at the farm. Today here in the city it will be in the 80's.

I hope Spring was not skipped entirely.

Especially now that I have restocked my stash shelves after discovering  The Red Thread .
That wonderful shop is not too far out of the way on my two country-to-city drives each week.

The yarn in the bag is for a secret project!

The blanket I am working on for the new baby grandson on the way might get a bit warm in my lap if the high temps continue.

I so love the little loops along the bottom.
I can just picture his wee fingers playing with the holes.

And I do hope it gets cool enough at games so I have a chance to wear the Lynchburg Lacrosse Cheering Socks I am working on.

{It was so fun to find sock yarn already striped in my son's school colors: red, white, grey and black.}

Hot weather or not, there is one special sign of spring that I cannot miss cityside :

The Washington DC Cherry Blossoms

So this morning the question is...
Do I head into work or
hop on my bicycle, pedal a short distance to the Tidal Basin and take some pretty pictures for you?

I will let the boss know what you think.

The In-Laws came to Visit

Or more aptly titled:
Boys are Never to Old (or young) for Toys.
Opa had been making compost for me ever since we bought our farm. With a nice spring day and a willing grandson to help load and drive, he and Oma showed up with a pickup truck full of the rich brown matter that will help me grow lots of good veggies.

But not just any pick up truck.

Years ago, Opa had the bed of his truck converted to a dump truck.

Just because.

I think I heard him giggling as Joey worked the controls of the bed.

Opa loves his toys.

Then it was time to mix that lovely compost in, so Fritz could play with his toys too.

My garden and I are very grateful

Meanwhile, Oma and I visited in the house.

She declared my kitchen a 'friendly' place.
It was the best compliment ever.

Happy smiles all around.

The littlest of the boys in this family ...my grandsons...have their toy waiting for them too.

Complete with training wheels.

Good Morning

It's shaping up to be a great day.
I do believe we will have some sun after an all night rain.
I will watch the greening of the land once that fog burns off.
How pretty that will be.

Two weeks of computer/camera/uploading photos issues has left me a bit loopy.

A temporary fix for today, but
not resolved to a proper condition.
Might be time to seek professional help.

Hope you have a lovely day.
