Project

A pair of discarded bi-fold closet doors,

a 15 light door found in the barn.

A very clever husband,

and I now have a lovely cold frame ready for spring planting.

Mouldings

Attention has turned back to further renovations inside the farmhouse. Specifically the Dining Room. I want this one room in our home to be a bit more formal that the rest.  I have so many family treasures that have been cooped up in boxes for a year and half now....I just can't wait to get them unpacked and our dining room furniture moved in.
The best way to start is by putting up some mouldings. The room we will be using was previously set up as an office by the former owners (lots and lots and lots of outlets and shelves and a HUGE built in desk the took a bit of doing to get out). The space is part of a newer addition to the house and a bit lacking in character.  A nifty little trick to save a few bucks on large crown mouldings is to put up 2 separate mouldings spaced apart and paint out the wall space between to create the illusion of one piece.

Fritz did a fabulous job working around all those outlets when installing the chair rail.

We also ripped out the this baseboards and replaced them with a nice 6" board consistent with the older part of the home.

Now onto draperies...

Sheep Sweater

Still no signs of sheep in our barnyard. Thank goodness our neighbors to the rear have a flock for me to gape at. This guy is all alone in the pasture these days. His ewes are staying closer in to the farmer's barns for lambing.

For now I will just have to settle for a few sheep dancing around my shoulders on my (finally) finished sheep sweater. I started it a year and a half ago during my trip to Germany. It was hibernating for most of the time since then, but I am happy that I lured it out and got it done. The yarn is Sheppard's Wool and is so soft and warm. Most definitely something I will use again.

How Does It Happen??

I sorted through my neglected-for-way too-long-abandonded-sock-pile in an effort to get them matched up.

Not one of these had a proper mate.

Leftover Candy Canes?

Make Andy's favorite cookies!

It's just a basic Chocolate Chip Cookie dough recipe with about a 1/2 cup of cocoa powder dumped in when adding the flour.
Then break up the candy canes into 1/4 inch pieces or so

and add to the dough in place (or maybe even with!) the chocolate chips.

They didn't last long. My boys will have to wait a whole year for more..

Morning Walk

To walk in crisp winter air is rejuvenating.

The fun part is playing with my new lens and seeing our barn from a whole new angle.

Sun Rise, Moon Rise

Stumbling around early this morning, coffee cup in hand, waiting for the laptop to boot up...

I glanced out the window ...

My day was off to a wonderful start. No more coffee needed.

Tonight, at the husband's promting, I ventured out to the porch and looked up..

Sleep Well Dear Ones.

Brotherly Love

These Grandsons of mine sure do love one another.

Dropped them off at the airport a bit ago.

...and have a flight booked to go see them in March.
Maybe I should have made it for February?

Lots Done

December had been a busy month of secret projects.

Hats,

a sweater for my Kate,

socks,

and a quilt for my youngest made from an assortment of favorite T-shirts and mementos.

All were happy with their gifts.
But I was the happiest of all.

I had the gift of all my Loves being home.
