We journeyed three hours up the road over the weekend to the Red Stone Glen Fiber Arts Center open house. I was in need little fiber inspiration now that I have all this wool from my very own sheep. Husband was a trooper volunteering...even insisting.. to drive me despite a long list of farm chores to get done.
The open house was pretty low key but it was fun to see some fiber animals of different sorts.
And fiber equipment of all sorts.
Flax processing equipment or fiber arts torture chamber? |
But my sought after inspiration was natural dying with plants.
So I came home with and promptly planted 12 indigo plants.
Another adventure awaits.
As we were leaving Red Stone, Fritz mentioned that there was another open house nearby that he just happened to know about...
He has a street bike. He has a trail bike.
But apparently he needs a trail bike that is street legal.
Duh.
Duh.

What's the saying . . ."boys and their toys!"
Back now to fibers, dying fibers, Indiago plants and "already planted!"
And you . . . natural dying of your very own fibers . . .
Amazing all the brand new things you have tried, learned, accomplished
since 2011 and Lindenberry Farms . . .
Isn't life grand . . .
I love it that he had plans too, and that you actually went to your event. The farm chores will be there for another weekend. I will look forward to seeing your indigo yarn and the process of getting to it. At least you have plenty of little boys to use it all on.
I love those blue and green natural dye colors. They are my favorite colors to use in everything and they remind me of the colors of water. It's nice you both found something fun on the road trip : )
Joan, I have been neglectful in commenting of late, but wanted to share how excited I am to read more of your wool processing endeavors. I too am looking into natural dyes for wool. However, in my case it is wool from old clothing that I've felted and want to dye. I'll be using it for primitive quilting and applique.
Alpaca have the sweetest faces. The naturally dyed wool is lovely...
Thank you so much for stopping by Living Life this morning. I alway appreciate an "Amen". Hugs!
Sounds like a fun and interesting outing. We watched a demo once about using Kool-Aid to dye yarn.
...ist doch prima Joan!
Mein Bernd-Elmar erweitert auch ständig das technische Equipment )):-)
I am in awe of your knitting anyway and then to think you'll be using your own indigo plants to dye the wool. Just wow.
Too funny! We're cheering you on to victory :-D. Would love to play with indigo.
What fun! I bought a madder plant this summer. The odds of me keeping it alive are pretty low I think, but it's such a fun idea I couldn't resist. Indigo would be fun too.
i am so interested in dying yarn...i am sure it is in my future. sounds like a great outing...the bike thing must be a guy thing ;)
