She really likes apples.

Reaching under the fence and snatching the fallen treats works...

 

 

...but busting through is even better.

Yes indeed, The Grand Canyon.

A short little getaway prior to Fritz's Conference in Phoenix.

We managed to get in two days of hiking down into the canyon before the public park was shutdown to us, the public.
 

 

Along the way we chatted with people from all over the globe including an older-than-us couple in the final steps of a five day rim to rim journey, another duo just taking the first steps on their matching trek, and children from New Zealand who just wanted to get to Disneyland.

And then there were these encounters:

 

 

 

I was just proud to have the guts to go down a bit....and make the climb back up.

 

 

We made it about as far at the red dot, a three hour hike.

 

 

 

Such pretty sights along the way.

 

 

In the end, a glorious sunset.

....in the best way possible.

 



Leather and Lace

The Nickels and Pennies Scarf is finished and ready for a few fall motorcycle rides.

 

No long trip this year as last. *sigh*
I was hoping for a scenic tour of Kentucky.

 

          The canceled vacation week did give me opportunity to attend a full day workshop with Gudrun Johnson of The Shetland Trader.

So much learned.

  I thought I knew a thing or two about knitting lace. Always room to improve.

The workshop's purpose was to learn the technique of working a lace pattern on both sides of the fabric, thereby making it completely reversible.

Never you mind all the mistakes...this was just a sampler swatch to learn by, not a project piece.

 

Gudrun is in the planning stages of hosting a workshop and tour in Shetland next summer.

 How clever.

I do believe I need to look into this concept a bit more.
Seriously.

MORE Apple Butter...a Shenandoah Valley tradition and family favorite

 A variation of Apple Walnut Raisin bread a la Nancy is ready for the oven.

 

 

 

 

And...when baby Wells is ready,

so are his first little jars of pure applesauce.

 

 There's still more to be harvested.

A press has been ordered, and in due time I hope to be doing this.
