Field Trip

A bit more time city side this week gave me a day to take an excursion down town.
Washington DC has a museum dedicated to just about everything.
The most popular and well know are the Smithsonian Institution buildings along the Mall,
{I worked in the SI system processing archives for a few years....fascinating work!}
but off the beaten path, in every direction there is so much to explore.
I took the Metro Northwest DC,  and was greeted with this sign.

Which would you choose?

I walked a few blocks past interesting architecture

through a neighborhood of diplomatic residences and arrived here.

to see this.

No photography inside of course.

I have a renewed interest in hand stitchery lately and enjoyed examining a few examples of lovely tapestries, but overall the exhibit was a bit underwhelming.

Heading back to the Metro I quite accidentally ( I swear! ) stumbled upon this

Where I left with this.

Pricey yarn, but it absolutely captivated me. The gold flecking running throughout, that does not show up well, is STUNNING.
{and I was such a good girl knitting from stash for almost a year, I deserved a splurge, right?)

Now to decide what to do with it??!

****
Perhaps some of the gals at Fiber Arts Friday have some ideas for me?

Prolly no accident that yarn shop is located close to the Textile Museum? Lol. Lovely yarn -- will love to see what you create with it.

Phillip's Collection!! No hesitation. I'm sure there's a great concert tonight. Wow. I'd go in a heartbeat.

I bet the textiles were awesome to see. I love hand stitching. Great job only leaving Looped with 1 skein of yarn.

Pretty yarn, did you get enough to make something for yourself?

Textile museum, maybe I need to see that, add to list

The yarn is beautiful. Looks like a Caribbean sea. I'd think that even if the textile museum exhibit was underwhelming it would be nice to know that the museum is there. Perhaps you could stop in for the next exhibit and it would be awesome.

I am dying to go to DC someday... I have a layover there next month, but that's as close as I'm going to get for now!

Can't wait to see what you create with that beautiful yarn!

Oh that is the one I would have chosen also. There is a Textile Museum in Toronto Canada my daughter had some of her Textile art there and I have been hooked ever since visiting it. Fantastic colour of yarn. B

So funny... I saw D.C. and then scrolled down and saw yarn...
I got very excited. Thought you had purchased this from my nephew's wife's yarn store in Old Town Alexandria!
Did not realize there were so many yarn shops in that area.
If you get back that way... hers is called Fibre Space!

Such a lovely shade of teal that you found!

adding looped yarn works to my things to do/see in DC list. Thanks! I recommend a Jeanie by Keri Williams for that yarn if it is Blue Heron Rayon Metallic. I made one (modified) and I LOVE IT!
I'm sure whatever you make will be gorgeous!
