Needleworks

I am officially giving up on these mittens.

I love the pattern, the style, the texture, the colors...but working with this yarn
 ( Brooklyn Tweed's Loft)
has been miserable. Yes miserable. I knit because I love the process. It is relaxing. Soothing.
Having to fight with a yarn that pulls apart as it's being worked is just not worth it. The gals at my local yarn shop tried to give me a few pointers for working with this 'soft spun yarn', but it simply isn't a good fit for my knitting style.
So this guy will remain thumbless and never meet his mate.

Taking it's place is a cabled vest that I am loving working up although I did have 3 false starts before I got it going in earnest. The cable pattern is a bit trickier than it looks with very subtle changes in the rhythm.

Hoping to get it done before I am off to see my little loves next week.
10 more days.

They are both gorgeous! I love those cables especially, but then I'm kind of a sucker for cables.

I haven't worked with Loft, but if it is "soft spun" you might have better luck by rewinding your ball in the opposite direction. You might be "un-spinning" it as you knit and that's making it fall apart. If you try knitting from the other end of the ball it just might twist it more and hold it together better. Otherwise - too bad it's getting stuffed! It's a very pretty mitten!

Well, if you can find a one-armed man, maybe he could use that mitten. ;)

Loving both projects, especially the cables. Are you able to turn the mitt into something else, so as not to waste your time. Nothing springs to mind at the moment, other than maybe line it and turn it into a pot holder.

I have put many a project into "time out"--some for a very very long time. Occasionally they have managed to escape and with time I become a bit more tolerant with their errant behavior. (I liked the idea of knitting from the other end of the ball--I'm going to remember to try that!!!) Sure hopes that happens with that mitt--it's so very very pretty! (One completed mitt with thumb might make a unique wrap for a special gift? or a holiday decoration?)

Too bad the yarn put up such a fight! I'd put it aside as well; isn't knitting supposed to be fun?

Love the crazy cable madness!

It's not a mitten, it's a really attractive beer Koozie! So clever of you! - mimi

Sometimes we just have to say no more! Good that you realized this now and not halfway through the 2nd mitt. Cause then you really would have had to finish them. Love the cables!

Shame about the mitten, its very beautiful. Can you make it into something else? I ended up making one into a christmas decoration once as a ran out of yarn to finish the second one. Cable looks lovely.

Sorry to hear about the yarn drama, but the cables are looking wonderful!
