That Cocktail!

Was divine.
A lovely touch for last month's Wedding celebration.
{I may have made a few small batches since}
A shot of bourbon, a sage-from-the garden based syrup, and a splash apple cider.
Served over ice in these awesome custom cups made for the occasion by Pink Poppy.
Add a branch of rosemary from that very same garden and we had a
perfect local fall flavor beverage that the party guests loved.

Ginny the bartender was awesome

For the wine and beer lovers, there was plenty.
We had been stockpiling for months,

the old coal storage bin in the cellar makes for a great cooler

and collecting purposely mismatched thrift store wine glasses at every opportunity.

My kate's old doll cabinet turned wine glass cabinet.

Each guest could choose a unique glass for the evening to refill as often as they liked.
No wondering whose glass was whos!

Planning a wedding is so much fun.
So glad Tommy and Chelsie entrusted some of the details to me.

I need a new big project!

****

Sage Simple Syrup

1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup honey
1 cup water
one orange sliced
a big handful of fresh sage leaves

Combine all in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer a few minutes until sugars are dissolved.
Strain when cooled.

Enjoy!

My Heart Swells

Because these two are now husband and wife.

My son and his Love joined together in a beautiful wedding on a crisp, windy fall day with that amazing backdrop we love so much

 We were all so much in the moment that cameras never made an appearance.
So until the professional package come back, I rely on these few that I have managed to gather.

It was glorious!

Happy Sunday

Crab Benedict and home fries as per Fritz's request.
Sliced tomatoes as per Ma's Ray request.
Mimosa as per my request.
I love cooking. Especially with all that home grown food. {crab not included...but if I could have an ocean....}
Best request of the morning came from Oma:
What do you call it here in America when you serve wine with breakfast?
My Response:
Sunday

River Hill Distillery

Just a few miles from our farmhome,
down a proverbial dirt road,
there lies a still.

Where barley and corn become bourbon and whisky.

Fred and Amy, whose family has been farming their land for over 200 years, took us behind the scenes to show us how it's done.

Fascinating.

We met a few more neighbors and enjoyed the lively conversation and laughter.
Especially when Fred noted:

I am the only legal still in the county,
but dang sure ain't the biggest.

Bloomery

Yesterday's adventure.

makers of the most wonderful cordials, macerated from their own fruits and roots, offering complimentary tastings.

Rustic, friendly and fun atmosphere with
interesting grounds to explore.

Pistachio nuts are served at the tasting and the shells are used to line paths

Root cellar

If you are ever in the Harpers Ferry area, GO THERE.

I highly recomend the
Lemoncello,
or the
Black Walnut,
or the
Cremma Lemma,
or the
Chocolate Raspberry,
or the
 Raspberry Lemon.....

Just go and find out for yourself.
The virtual tour is almost as fun as the real thing, although won't taste as good.

My garden helper is back,

{I'm not ready for the onslaught of zucchini yet}

with an apprentice.

 {good job staying between the rows!}

{rocks must taste as good as the veggies}

That is when he wasn't helping a certain Papa.

After a hard day of rock pile playing, hammock flipping, playhouse pretending, bath time splashing, and a little front porch fun...

which included a special little cocktail for Marme,

{wine infused with lemon, mint and lavender }

and a bit of contemplation time with Papa,

we are all ready for a good nights sleep.

I hope your day was as good as mine,
Much Love,
~Joan
